Shopping with a Sense of Purpose

Many of you may be avoiding your closet denial and therefore have not made it to the step of accepting the fact that being your own DIY stylist oftentimes forces you back into the cyclical problems we all seem to experience with our closets.

It’s fair to say that fashion is, at its best, a team effort. Collaboration helps keep our fashion sense fresh and offers varying perspectives. Once you clean your closet out, and are left with an honest representation of what you wear from day-to-day, it’s time to start shopping with a sense of purpose. In order to avoid getting sucked back into the same buying habits, it’s important to have a plan.

The Art of Shopping – Not Always DIY

I CONFESS – my closet doesn’t exactly reflect the style that I project in my head. As I turn the pages to all of my favorite fashion magazines and admire one look after the next and countless things I hope to buy, which I mentally subtract from my paycheck (deciding to skip groceries and eat at my parents), it strikes me that while I like trendy fashion I can be timid when it comes to putting it all together.

SMART GLAMOUR means that you don’t always have to do it yourself. It’s hard to actually admit this fact, mainly, because like most of us, I love to shop (though it can be stressful and SO time consuming). For Marc Jacobs, D&G, Velvet, Lucky Brand, Juicy Couture and countless other brands – but within all of that shopping, what many of us lack is the ART of choosing properly.

Closet Denial

Closet Denial is a state that many of us live in. Often times not by choice, but after a while it becomes routine, a situation we ignore and learn to live with. A few weeks ago I decided to finally face up to my denial and start to live by the fashion sense that I know I possess. I began to sort through my clothes and give away items that I hadn’t worn in months. Initially this frightened me because, honestly, I don’t have the largest wardrobe and though I literally hadn’t worn any of these clothes for months they gave my closet an added look of fullness. Seeing as I am the only person who surveys my closet on a regular basis (and I clearly wasn’t being fooled) I decided it was time to give up the façade and admit to my CLOSET DENIAL. That’s right – if I ended up with one pair of jeans and two shirts at least I had an honest representation of the true state of my closet and I could begin to authentically present myself accordingly.

Always Ready To Hit The Streets

My alarm went off five times before I finally decided to shut it off. That didn’t mean that I got up, but clearly I wasn’t ready to get out of bed and the alarm really wasn’t helping. The thing is, I was awake but I can never seem to drag myself out of bed no matter how much I plan to the night before. Trust me, this happens every, s-i-n-g-l-e morning and every s-i-n-g-l-e night I pledge to actually get up before eight. Sadly, what finally does get me up is the constant meowing and pawing at my door. Another constant each morning: my dog and cat.

Wearing Less Isn’t Always So Easy

Yesterday was an exercise in battling the heat. Keeping cool was my top priority. I woke up so HOT! And, by the time I made it to my closet, I’d come to the distinct conclusion that I wanted to wear as little as possible. Despite that decision, it suddenly became difficult to figure out what to wear even though I was going for less clothing.

Summer fashions can be tough to maneuver. Many of us have the idea of wearing little to nothing, especially when dealing with the dog says of summer, but always with the intention of effortless, pulled together style. And that’s the conundrum. How do you mix and match summer pieces without looking like you’re in your “lounge” wear?

I’ll Always Be A Repeat Kind of Girl

I’ve always believed that “solofits” were a myth. You know, those girls who wear an outfit just once and archive it at the end of the day? I mean, who’s even that creative to not need at least one piece from a previous outfit to add to a new look? Even celebrities are spotted in repeats. I mean, who seriously has the time, the know-how and the bank account, let alone the memory? (I can’t remember what I wore yesterday!)
