Dress For Your Body Shape: Hourglass

(From L to R) BCBGMAXAZRIA – $81, Theory – $79, La Rok – $59

As we mentioned last week, we’re going to have a short series with tips on how to dress for your particular body shape! Today’s focus is the hourglass shape.

An hourglass shape is defined as having an equal width bust and hip, with a narrow waist.

Tips to dress an hourglass shape:

  • Dress to accentuate and flatter your curves – “If ya got it, flaunt it!”
  • Shape your bust: get a professional fitting and make sure you’re wearing a supportive bra that fits
  • Stock up on v-neck tops and dresses as it flatters your bust and elongates the body
  • If you have curves you want to cover up, wear darker solid colors on them, and bright colors or prints to accentuate the curves you love

Do you have an hourglass shape? What are the fashion rules you live by?

Dress For Your Body Shape: Straight

(From L to R) La Rok – $83, A New York – $56, Aqua – $44

As you know, getting dressed is not only about the clothes that are on your body – it’s also about making sure what you’re wearing looks good on your body. That’s why it’s so very important to not only know what type of body shape you have, but also know what looks best on you. Over the next few weeks we’ll be giving you pointers on how to dress for 4 different body shapes: straight, hourglass, pear, and round. Today we’re focusing on the “straight” body type.

A straight body type is defined as having an upper and lower torso that is equal in width, and there is little difference between measurements of the bust, waist, and hips.

Tips to dress a straight body:

  • Create curves by wearing pieces that cinch at the waist, creating an hourglass shape
  • Wear ruffles and frilly pieces to add volume and femininity to your figure
  • Avoid baggy clothes or pieces that are too big because they can create a boyish look

Do you have a straight body type? What are some fashion rules you live by to work YOUR body shape?

A Casual and Fashionable Fall Look!

It’s no secret that most fashionistas absolutely love fall fashion. The layers, the warm colors, and the cold-weather accessories make us swoon. With the holidays coming up, we’re bound to be busy with shopping, and the usual date or girl’s night out – so it’s essential that we wear something that’s weather and life appropriate. We created this chic simple look based around our long-sleeved French Connection dress ($44). We suggest pairing this dress with cozy wool tights, and a pair of comfortable yet fashionable riding boots. Having a flat pair of boots is a fall/winter staple – they look great, keep your feet warm, and they’re super versatile. And what’s a complete look without a great bag?? Don’t think that because the weather is cool you have to be in jeans to keep warm! Pair skirts and dresses with tights and boots and you’ll be fashionable all season long.

What’s your fall/winter wardrobe staple??

Fashionably speaking, what is your favorite season?

Fall – I love wearing colorful scarves. They can make any outfit so much fun! <3

Say Hi to Your 365HANGERS Team Member, Nikki!

Today we’re introducing you to one of the newest members of the 365HANGERS team, our Operations Manager, Nikki!

Which 3 words would you use to describe your personal style?

Urban, ethnic, and artistic.

Who is your celebrity style icon and why?

Gwen Stefani. She just always seems to get it right. She has a really irreverent, yet well thought out style, and she’s clear on who she is. You can tell that she’s made up her mind that she definitely wants to look a certain way, but it isn’t pretentious, and she’s not trying too hard.

Fashionably speaking, what is your favorite season?

I know everyone always says fall and winter because of boots and all of the layering and that’s fine, but I really like summer. I’m an LA girl! I love shorts, sandals, little dresses, and fun tees.

What is your must-have accessory?

Earrings. The bigger and more ridiculous, the better. I can’t leave the house without them.

Tell us one totally random thing about you!

I’ve been to Guatemala.

Pippi Hepburn Giveaway!

We are so so excited to bring you this month’s giveaway! We have partnered with the incredible vegan handbag line, Pippi Hepburn! Here’s a little background about the designer herself, Lisa Best.

“When I was 14 in Cambridge, MA being tutored by Harvard and M.I.T. grads, I asked my father if I could become a hippie when I grew up. My father said no, because when those hippies grew up, their father’s would give them a job. And, when I grew up he could not give me a job. So go to school, learn lots and create my own job. I grew up, kind of, studied lots and worked many jobs. After a long journey, I decided to take my Dad’s advice (and that of my Mom, aunts and family friends) and start my own business.

Now, I want to be a glamorous hippie and I use this as inspiration to create my work. I started with beautiful distressed faux suede and faux leather slouchy handbags and other vegan bag and purse designs with a bohemian edge.

My pieces sell at Megan Avery Designs in Hoboken, NJ; Brooklyn Collective in Brooklyn, NY; Love and Pieces in Chicago, Illinois, and online on my websites www.pippihepburn.etsy.com and www.pippihepburn.com.”

Lisa Best is the designer of the Pippi Hepburn line. She has worked in the fashion industry for several years in high fashion companies, skilled as a computer and hand sketch artist, technical designer, designer and stylist. Handbags and purses are the most recently being presented. Apparel and other accessories to come. Want to know what’s in Lisa’s bag? Check out this fun interview!

Broke Girl’s Guide to Statement Skirts

Erin Bunch and Michelle Vick started their website and daily email Broke Girl’s Guide to help girls live the high life — on a dime. As would be expected, their hearts started to pound when they heard about the incredible deals 365HANGERS has to offer, and it was only natural that they would eventually blog for the site. Today, they’re sharing their favorite picks for fun party skirts that really make a statement.

Besides the fact that they are automatic attention-grabbers, one of the things we love about these festive skirts is that they’re actually incredibly easy to wear. They bring so much style to any outfit that you generally want to keep the other pieces very simple and minimal, which makes us happy, because we are big fans of anything that enables us to be both lazy AND stylish at the very same time. When you’re rushing out the door with only five minutes to get ready, this will make you very happy too. If you’re concerned about being cold in these short skirts, keep in mind that they can easily transition to colder weather with the addition of tights. Fitted blazers are another option — when your upper body is all covered up, not only does it keep you warm, but it brings even more attention to your gorgeous gams.

1. $88 sequin Theory miniskirt

While we have had a soft spot for sequins since the tender age of four, sequins are big this fall, so we’re wearing them, oh, pretty much every day. This Theory miniskirt is perfect for parties — especially upcoming holiday parties — and so easy to wear! All that bling means that you should keep the rest of the outfit nice and simple, as demonstrated by the model.

2. $44 red French Connection skirt

We love how the bright red of this skirt really pops — it’s impossible to be ignored while wearing it. While this may be a little ballsy, we think that this skirt can even be pulled off at work (unless you work at a funeral parlor) by pairing it with conservative pieces such as a crisp white button-down or black tights, shirt, and blazer.

3. $71 blue Trina Turk skirt

This rich blue shade is nothing short of gorgeous. Since this skirt is not quite as showy as the others, it’s actually a bit more versatile. If you’re a fan of color-blocking, you could even experiment with a bright yellow, pink, or aqua top for a truly bold and stunning look. As with the other skirts, this one is sure to stop traffic, so please avoid congested thoroughfares — no one wants a ten-car pile-up on her conscience.

Fall 2011 Trend Report

Summer is winding down, and while we’re searching our closets to prepare our fall wardrobe, fashionistas everywhere are no doubt wondering, “Is this still trendy?” And of course, we will use any excuse to spend a day shopping for the latest fashions.

Well, lucky for you (and your pockets) this fall season we’re seeing a lot of the same trends! Lace, leather, and velvet are back this year in a big way. Along with some other trends like polka dots, color-blocking, and abstract prints – designers are making sure that we don’t use the cooler months as an excuse to dress in drab, boring pieces.

Velvet

Proenza Schouler combines two trends – funky prints and velvet, and stuns. Just one velvet piece can add that extra bit of luxury to any wardrobe. The rich fabric is perfect for the fall and winter months. Whether it’s in a top, a blazer, or even pants – we recommend adding at least one piece to your closet.

Lace

Lace is the best way to look ladylike, while channeling your inner sexiness. Marc Jacobs takes us back to the Victorian era with this beautiful lace piece. Layering a lace top under a blazer is a great way to spice up an office look – simply lose the blazer after work and you’re ready for a night out on the town.

Leather

When we think of wearing leather, most likely our minds drift to jackets, boots, or maybe even our favorite bag. Well, it’s time to open up our minds, ladies! Rachel Comey shows us that, worn correctly, a leather mini-skirt can be feminine, classy, and appropriate to wear almost anywhere.

Polka Dots

One of the most classic prints in the fashion world is polka dots. Whether it’s just a top, or polka dot dress – wearing polka dots is a fun and easy way to add a little “something extra” to your wardrobe. Lanvin’s “little black [polka dot] dress” has us wanting to add polka dots to every black dress we own.

Color-Blocking

We’ve seen color-blocking all year with bright colors, and it’s not going anywhere this season. Swap out the neon greens and pinks, for burgundies, mustards, and burnt oranges and you’re ready for fall. Proenza Schouler wows us again with this asymmetrical black and mustard frock.

Abstract Prints

Another trend that’s been happening all year and shows no signs of stopping is abstract prints. Funky shapes and geometrical patterns keep our wardrobe fun and up-to-date, and make us the center of attention wherever we go. The muted colors in this Proenza Schouler piece are a perfect example of fall appropriate hues and prints.

Which trends are you planning on rocking this fall?
