DIY Vintage Chandelier Crystal Necklace

We love Erin from Thanks I Made It almost as much as we love all of her DIY projects. Her chandelier crystal necklace is super luxe and makes the perfect late holiday gift if you’re running low on cash. And now…for Erin:

On my last visit at my favorite vintage and second-hand furniture store in my neighborhood, they had a dish brimming with chandelier crystals. It was as tempting as a bowl full of candy, so I scooped up a handful. This pendant is an easy and elegant way to showcase the vintage crystal. If you don’t have any spare chandeliers lying around, I have seen similar shaped glass and acrylic crystals at the craft store.

Tools and materials:
Crystal
Wire clippers
Round nose pliers (exact type not pictured, I was making do with my dad’s tools while home for Thanksgiving)
Long gold chain– I went with about 28 inches.
Beading wire (chain and wire both from Michael’s)

Clip of any old wire from the crystal.

Cut a long piece of beading wire (at least 12 inches). (1) Slide wire a few inches through the hole in crystal, and bend up both ends of the wire. (2) Using pliers twist both wires together. (3) Fold short end of wire into loop, and twist excess around first twist. (4) Begin wrapping the long end of the wire around the twists, and down around the crystal. (5) Once you get near the hole in the crystal, clip the wire and bend into a right angle. (6) Tuck bent end of wire into the crystal’s hole.

Using the pliers, open up one of the end links on the chain. Add pendant and link on other end of chain to the link and close with the pliers, making a continuous chain.

Happy Making!

I'd recreate this necklace by doing the chain and loop in silver. I'd also add some large colored ball shaped pearls to hang hither and flow, up and down the necklace.
