8 Simple Rules for Wearings Leggings
Our dear yoga friend, the legging, has been spotted in the workplace, all the best bars and even the top magazines you sink your teeth into daily. We’re here to help make sure you look fab and 90′s chic (but not in a scrunchy kind of way).
Be wise about size
If your leggings are too small, they can make your middle unflattering by squeezing too tight. They’ll also wear thin faster which can cause major snagging. If in doubt, always go for a larger size. That way I make sure my leggings stay up when I sit down, too!
Get the best cut
Three quarter length leggings are great for spring, but if you’re wearing them with boots, make sure they are a couple inches longer than the top of the boot to avoid that awkward “in between skin”.
Cover your bottom
Leggings are made to be worn with a longer top, blouse, vest, or short dress…not just as an easy replacement for jeans.
Mind over matter
Be mindful of what look you’re going for. If you’re going out to lunch with friends, a long sweater is chic and comfy. But, if you’re headed to a job interview, put the sweater down and go for a tailored blazer with a cute top.
Wear shoes that compliment
Although stylists generally advise to not wear high heels with leggings, I give them a go if it’s a pair of Jeffery Campbell Lita’s, or the like. We recommend a pair of flats, sandals, or boots to always look chic.
Switch up the material
An alternate material to cotton leggings can make a huge difference in your fashion statement. If you’re going out for a night on the town, try a pair of pleather or velvet!
Color play for a day
Shy away from the classic black leggings and try out some new colors. Give your outfit some pop with mint green, fuchsia, or teal leggings!
Patterns are your friend
This is single handedly my favorite current trend – patterned leggings – because who says tops have to have all the fun? Put the party in the pants…you know what we mean!
