Want to get up close and personal with our 365Guest Editor? Jena answered a few questions for us.
Tell us about the Jena we don’t know.
I am a true Gemini. I never believed in that stuff until I read into it more…and it’s scary how much of a Gemini I am. I am the fakest vegetarian there is (I eat chicken, fish and foie…don’t judge). I really enjoy giving advice (even when it’s unsolicited but I just like to help). I wish I spoke Italian…or had an Italian accent. Nothing makes me happier than long dogs with short legs.
How did you get into blogging?
It all started with Twitter, actually. I made an account in college to stalk celebrities (because E! News simply wasn’t enough for me) then I discovered a great fashion presence on the platform. I started becoming inspired by the magazines, designers, and editors that I followed so I finally got up the courage to tweet and it would mostly be style tips in under 140 characters. I built a bit of a following and I would receive some tweets from others asking if I had a blog and people suggested I create one. I was never tech savvy so it sounded intimidating, but once an easy blogging platform was suggested I created ChiCityFashion and the rest is history.
What is your favorite go-to Chicago Boutique (and do they sell online?)?
Sofia has always been my go-to boutique in Chicago. They recently moved to an amazing location on Oak Street and are now selling home goods too. And no, they do not sell online right now.
Your blog says you love to eat. What’s your all time favorite food/dish/restaurant?
This is such a tough question because there are SO many delicious restaurants here in Chicago. My absolute favorite food is pizza and the best Neapolitan style pizza in the city is Spacca Napoli in Ravenswood. Tastes exactly like it does in Italy! And when it comes to straight up comfort food, you can’t have a bad meal at Eleven City Diner. It’s a classic diner meets Jewish deli…how can you go wrong?
What is one end-all/be-all tip for looking fabulous?
Confidence! When it comes to style it’s fun to take a risk but when you don’t feel comfortable with your look, it shows. Wear what you feel comfortable wearing, own your look and you’ll always be fabulous.
