Appearances and Clothes Actually Matter
Let’s face it; a day in Italy is not like spending a day in Germany. Your appearance and clothes actually matter here, and people dress to show-off, not to be comfortable. My mom and I had the whole day planned for shopping, something that I have been looking forward to my entire trip! Going shopping in Milan is like fashion week; walking around, I easily passed by at least four, gorgeous, model-like women who knew how to dress and flaunt it.
While I’m not the tallest girl, I subconsciously wanted to compete with these women and decided to wear my feminine, yet, sexy Robert Rodriguez dress. If you haven’t figured it out already, I’m a feminine type of girl. I like flow-y dresses and skirts, heels, blouses, and clothes that will make me look elegant. Very rarely do I dress like a “rocker chick” or “tom girl,” unless I’m going to some concert or where I am required to be more “dangerous.”
Whenever I go shopping, I let my hair down because not every outfit I try on looks good with an updo. I couldn’t wait to hit the streets of the Milano fashion district!
Oh what fun it is to be a girl and out shopping with my mom! We conquered one shop after the next. It was like one of those scenes in a movie where two women walk into a store and the next scene cuts to the two of them coming out with bags in their hands! I saw some of the most incredible fashion designs that I’ve ever seen before.
I read in my guidebook that the Quadrilatero d’Oro is a great street to window shop and observe the Italian fashion, so we did exactly that. Strolling down the narrow street made me feel like I entered a whole new level of fashion. Shoppers wore outfits that were made up of unique designs and colors; looks that I could never imagine seeing in my little town in Germany.
One beautiful woman, who particularly caught my attention, was a tall brunette, who emphasized her curves and features with various shades of green. The upper part of her sleeveless summer dress was a lighter green with a hint of gold, and her waist was highlighted with a darker green, creating a curve. She finished the look with a beige-gold hat that matched the hint of gold on her dress. I couldn’t help but to turn my head as she passed me. She was the definition of elegance. While I couldn’t quite compete with such beauty, I felt comfortable in my flirty ruffle dress.
Today’s agenda was dedicated to fashion, and that is precisely what I accomplished. It was a real eye-opener and showed me what I’d been missing all of my life! I can’t wait to add some new colors in my closet when I fly back to Los Angeles.
Love always,
Mia
